Material, production and our demands for constant optimization.
OM YA products
We select our products with a lot of love and care. We take into account sustainability aspects on an ecological, economic and social level as best we can. Transparency in production, the most natural materials possible from renewable raw materials and longevity play an important role in our product development. Through continuous research and adjustment in sustainability topics, we want to constantly optimize our standards and continue to find production partners in the future with whom we can create more Om Ya Goods in premium quality for you.
Handwork
All OM YA Design cushions, bolsters, blankets, bags etc. are made by hand in our Hamburg studio. Handcraft is characterized by manual manufacturing processes in which products are manufactured in smaller quantities and with individual care. This means we can respond to individual order trends without surpluses and always guarantee optimal quality craftsmanship.
Our small team works either in our studio or from home.
filling material
Our pillows and bolsters are filled with the husks of the spelled grains. An elastic and natural filling material called spelled husk. We are supplied by a regional company in the Hamburg area and fill the inner cushions by hand with care.
The material of our yoga mats
At OM YA Design we have three different versions of yoga mats. Each of them has its own surface with individual feels. However, at their base they are all made of natural rubber.
Natural rubber
OM YA Design uses natural rubber as the base for all yoga mats. We chose this material because it is a renewable, biodegradable raw material and therefore one of the most natural materials used for yoga mats. The structure gives the mat a firm and stable hold on the floor, the texture is hard-wearing and the yoga mats are therefore very durable.
By scratching the tree bark, a white rubbery liquid, latex, is released and collected in containers. Rubber trees can release latex over a very long period of time. They grow predominantly in Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Unfortunately, the climate in our latitudes is not suitable for growing rubber trees. You can find rubber in products such as baby pacifiers, shoe soles, condoms, car tires and of course yoga mats.
Our yoga mats also have a base made of natural rubber that was harvested in Southeast Asia. The company with which we have been working closely and trustingly since 2018 regularly has the quality of the material certified according to EU standards (RoHS). Sometimes the rubber has a somewhat rubbery smell, this is completely normal and usually disappears after a short time.

Microfiber
We use microfiber (from recycled PET bottles) for the surface of the SENSUAL FLOW yoga mats, the travel yoga mats and the children's yoga mats.
Microfibers are made from PET bottles using a recycling process. This means that recyclable materials that are already in circulation can continue to be used.
Microfiber fabric is so dense that it blocks water droplets and wind while remaining breathable. The fibers are particularly fine, very soft, wrinkle-free and dry quickly. Because of these properties, they are often used not only in cleaning cloths, but also in outdoor and sports clothing. The advantage of our yoga mats is that they are particularly durable and retain their shape. Due to the cavities between the fibers, moisture such as sweat is not stored within the fiber as with cotton, but is only deposited in the spaces between the fibers. This allows it to evaporate quickly. The surface of the yoga mat does not become wet and slippery, but rather improves its grip thanks to the slight moisture.

cork
We use this natural material for our OM YA Design yoga mats PURE NATURAL and our cork yoga blocks.
Cork is a natural raw material that is one of the best in terms of its ecological balance due to cultivation, dismantling and disposal. Cork is harvested by peeling the bark from cork trees. Harvesting, also known as "uncorking," is typically done every 9 to 12 years after the trees are about 25 years old. Trained workers make vertical cuts in the bark and then carefully remove the outer layer of cork in large blocks. The tree regenerates after harvest, enabling sustainable and environmentally friendly cork production.
The surface of our PURE NATURAL yoga mats feels warm and comfortable. With its structured surface, it offers a non-slip base that ensures a firm grip during yoga exercises. Cork absorbs moisture, meaning the mat is non-slip even when sweating while remaining hygienic

PU
We use the synthetic resin PU (polyurethane) as the surface for our OM YA Design yoga mats ADVANCED GRIP and for our yoga pads.
Polyurethane is a synthetic resin and is widely used in our everyday lives. It can be found, for example, in upholstered furniture, mattresses, pillows and also shoe soles. PU can be manufactured using the casting process and allows the creation of tailor-made molded parts with specific properties.
As a surface for yoga mats, it offers a lot of advantages: its high abrasion resistance ensures that the mat lasts for a long time even with regular use, it offers elasticity and pleasant cushioning for the joints and spine during yoga exercises, and it is easy to clean and resistant to sweat, which ensures the hygiene of the mat and the material is free of PVC and latex.

Packaging material and shipping
– we try as little as possible, as much as necessary.
We currently use recycled paper and craft paper. Our yoga mats are covered with paper instead of a foil sleeve. When it comes to our printed products, we pay attention to using paper that is as natural as possible and we pay a CO2 compensation tax for every print. We send our packages with DHL GoGreen.
